The National Assessment for eighth grade students represents the external summative evaluation method of the competencies acquired during the lower secondary education.

The exam takes place annually in a single session. Both candidates from public education and those from private education have the right to take the National Assessment free of charge.

The average grade obtained at the eighth grade National Assessment is a decisive criterion for admission to high school education.

The national coordination of the design, organization, and administration of the eighth grade National Assessment, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the Ministry of Education through the National Center for Assessment and Examination (CNEE).

The development of specific assessment procedures is carried out by the CNEE, following consultations with the specialized departments of the Ministry.

The coordination at the county level/Bucharest municipality of the organization of the eighth grade National Assessment, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the school inspectorate.
