The procedure establishes the way in which, at the request of the concerned individuals, ATHENAEUM University of Bucharest recognizes the doctoral diploma and the title of doctor in sciences or in a professional field obtained at:
a) accredited higher education or research-development institutions from an EU, EEA member state and from EEA;
b) accredited higher education or research-development institutions included in the List of prestigious universities from other states, approved by Order no. 5462/2018 and updated periodically;
c) accredited higher education or research-development institutions that are subject to an international mutual recognition agreement, concluded at intergovernmental or interuniversity level.
The recognition of the doctoral diploma and the title of doctor in sciences obtained abroad based on this procedure is valid and produces legal effects only at the ATHENAEUM University of Bucharest and is performed for:
a) occupying for a determined period of time vacant teaching positions, as an associate teaching staff member;
b) participating in a competition for occupying a vacant teaching or research position within ATHENAEUM University – with employment for an undetermined period;
c) enrollment in postgraduate programs.

The profession of teaching staff (or PhD supervisor) is found at position no. A.8 in Annex no. 2 of Law no. 200 of 2004 regarding the recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications for regulated professions in Romania, with subsequent amendments and completions.*

Appeal routes
The decision of non-recognition can be contested only once, within 15 calendar days from communication, through a motivated request submitted to the Registry of Athenaeum University in Bucharest or sent to the email address secretariat@univath.ro.
Appeals are resolved and communicated to applicants within 30 calendar days from registration. Following the appeal, the final decision of recognition or non-recognition can be challenged in the competent courts.
