The Social Assistance Service ensures the protection of the child who requires the establishment of a protection measure that involves the upbringing, care, and education of children deprived of parental care, including children with special needs (children with disabilities, abused/neglected children, children with behavioral disorders, children with chronic illnesses, etc.) by a professional maternal assistant, at their home.
The professional maternal assistant is the individual, certified according to the conditions set by law as well as additional criteria approved by DGASPC Caras-Severin, who through their activity ensures the upbringing, care, and education necessary for the harmonious development of the children they receive in placement.

This profession is regulated according to Government Decision 678/2003 regarding the conditions for obtaining the certificate, the certification procedures, and the status of the professional maternal assistant.*
