The state allowance for children is granted to all children up to the age of 18, without discrimination. The state allowance for children is also granted to young people who have turned 18 years old, who attend high school or vocational education courses, organized in accordance with the law, until completion, except for those who repeat the school year, except for those who repeat due to health reasons, proven by a medical certificate.

Children of foreign citizens and stateless persons who are residents, according to the law, in Romania and who live together with their parents are also entitled to state allowance for children.
This right can be requested by either of the child's biological parents, as well as by the person who has adopted a child, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

  • Children up to 2 years old, or up to 3 years old in the case of children with disabilities, benefit from a state allowance of 369 lei;
  • Children aged between 2-18 years, as well as young people who have turned 18 and attend high school or vocational education organized according to the law, benefit from a state allowance amounting to 185 lei.
