The Romanian-American University automatically recognizes the doctoral diploma and the title of Doctor of Science obtained from accredited higher education institutions abroad, according to the recognition procedure described below.
Eligibility
Applicants who have obtained a doctoral title at the following are eligible to submit requests for the recognition of their doctoral diploma and the title of Doctor of Science or in a professional field:
- accredited higher education or research-development institutions from a member state of the European Union, the European Economic Area, and the Swiss Confederation;
- accredited higher education or research-development institutions included in the List of prestigious universities from other countries, approved by order of the Minister of National Education and Research, periodically updated;
- accredited higher education or research-development institutions that are subject to an international mutual recognition agreement concluded at intergovernmental or inter-university level.

Applicants who do not fall under one of the situations mentioned above will address themselves directly to the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas within the competent ministry - https://www.cnred.edu.ro/.
The recognition of the doctoral diploma and the title of Doctor of Science or in a professional field is granted only for the purpose of enrolling in postgraduate programs, obtaining habilitation, occupying a teaching or research position within the Romanian-American University.

The title of doctor is found at position no. A8 in Annex no. 2 of Law 200/2004 on the recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications for regulated professions in Romania, with subsequent amendments and completions.*

Appeal routes
The decision can be appealed within 30 days from the date of notification, through a substantiated request submitted to the University Registry. Appeals are resolved within 5 days by the appeal committee composed of 5 members appointed by the Rector’s decision. The response to the appeal is communicated directly, by email or by post/courier company, to the applicant or their authorized representative, based on signature and certain date, by the Study Documents Office. The procedure is drafted and approved based on Order no. 5923/2016 published in the Official Gazette no. 1014 dated 16.12.2016.
