Revocation of Romanian Citizenship*
Any authority or person who is aware of the existence of a reason for the withdrawal of Romanian citizenship may notify, in writing, the Citizenship Commission, being obliged to present the evidence at their disposal. The President of the Commission establishes, by resolution, the date on which the withdrawal notification will be debated, also ordering - the request for the opinion of the competent authorities regarding fulfillment of the legal conditions for withdrawal of citizenship - the invitation of the person who filed the notification, as well as any other person who may provide useful information for resolving the application - the summoning of the person concerned at the known domicile or, if this is not known, by publishing the summons in the Official Gazette of Romania, Part III.
The summoning of the person takes place at least 6 months before the date set for debating the notification.On the date established for debating the notification, the Commission verifies the fulfillment of the necessary conditions for withdrawing Romanian citizenship. It hears the summoned persons as well as the person concerned. The absence of the legally summoned person does not prevent the procedures for withdrawing Romanian citizenship from taking place.
If it finds fulfillment or, as the case may be, non-fulfillment of the legal conditions for withdrawal of Romanian citizenship, the Commission will propose to the President of the National Authority for Citizenship, through a motivated report, the approval of the withdrawal of Romanian citizenship or, as the case may be, the rejection of the notification.
The President of the National Authority for Citizenship, upon finding the fulfillment of the conditions provided by law, issues the order for the withdrawal of Romanian citizenship, or, in case of non-fulfillment, the rejection order for the withdrawal notification. The President's order to approve or reject the notification for withdrawal of citizenship is communicated to the person concerned, as well as to the person who made the notification, by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt.
