Details

Purpose of the procedure: The procedure is intended for authorizing interpreters and translators to provide interpreting and translation services at the request of the bodies provided by Law no. 178/1997, namely: the Superior Council of Magistracy, Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (including DIICOT), the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, criminal investigation bodies, courts of law, notary offices, lawyers and bailiffs.


Beneficiaries of the procedure: citizens of the Member States of the European Union or the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation

Procedure steps

I. Verification of compliance with legal requirements, based on the documents submitted by applicants

II. Request by the Ministry of Justice and receipt of the applicant’s criminal record extract

III. Issuance of the minister of justice’s order authorizing interpreters and translators

IV. Issuance of the interpreter and translator authorization - communicated by postal services (CN „Poșta Română” S.A) – registered letter without acknowledgment of receipt, sent to the address indicated by the applicant in the application (residence, domicile or other address).


Fee

A judicial stamp duty of 300 lei must be paid for each foreign language for which authorization is requested (not for the Romanian language).


The fee is paid into the local budget account of the administrative-territorial unit where the applicant has his/her domicile/residence (the town hall).


If the applicant has neither domicile nor residence in Romania, the fee is paid into the account of Sector 5 Town Hall, Bucharest.


Payment can be made in cash / by transfer / online (including at www.ghiseul.ro), at the Town Hall, bank units, CEC, State Treasury or Romanian Post, but only into the local budget account of the aforementioned town hall.


It is mandatory for the receipt to expressly state: “judicial stamp duty for authorization as interpreter and translator for the language…”.

Receipt representing the judicial stamp duty in the amount of 300 lei for each foreign language for which authorization as an interpreter and translator is requested (but not for the Romanian language) – scanned document.
