The National Assessment for 8th grade students represents the method of external summative evaluation of the competencies acquired during lower secondary education.
The exam takes place annually, in a single session. Both candidates from state education and those from private education have the right to take the NA without a fee.
The average obtained at NA VIII is a decisive criterion for admission to high school education.
The national-level coordination of the planning, organization, and administration of NA VIII, as well as the use of its results, is ensured by the Ministry of Education through the National Center for Assessment and Examination (NCAE).
The development of evaluation-specific procedures is carried out by NCAE, following consultation with the ministry's specialized departments.
The county/Bucharest-level coordination of the organization of NA VIII, as well as the use of its results, is ensured by the school inspectorate.
