The Family-Type Alternatives Department - The Professional Foster Caregivers Corps ensures the protection of the child who requires the establishment of a protection measure that involves the upbringing, care, and education of the child by a professional foster caregiver, at their home.

The professional foster caregiver is the individual, certified, employed by the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection, who provides at their home or, as the case may be, at their residence, the upbringing, care, and education of the child during the application of the special protection measure of placement, emergency placement for the child separated, temporarily or permanently, from their parents or, as the case may be, during the respite period of another foster caregiver.

Persons residing in the territory of sector 5, interested in becoming a foster caregiver, submit to the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Sector 5 an application for the assessment of their capacity, accompanied by the documents mentioned below.

The certificate is issued by the Sector 5 Child Protection Commission for an indefinite period and is renewed every two years.
