The professional maternal assistant is the natural person, certified according to the law, who, through the activity carried out at their home, ensures the upbringing, care, and education necessary for the harmonious development of the children they take into placement.
Who can be a professional maternal assistant?
The person who can be a professional maternal assistant is someone who:
-has at least 10 grades of schooling
-is between 25 and 52 years old at the time of evaluation
-has full legal capacity, and through their behavior in society, health status, and psychological profile, provides guarantees for the proper fulfillment of the obligations of a parent, regarding their own children;
-uses a dwelling that covers the needs for food preparation, hygiene, education, and rest of its users, including those of the children who are to be placed in foster care;
-has the acceptance of the entire family they live with to receive and care for a child in their home;
-a person carrying out salaried activity, only on the condition of terminating the individual employment contract under which they are carrying out the respective salaried activity
Cannot be a professional maternal assistant
-a person who has been convicted by final court decision for committing, intentionally, an offense;
-a parent who has been stripped of parental rights or whose child was declared abandoned by final court decision
-a person suffering from chronic communicable diseases
How can you become a professional maternal assistant?
Persons domiciled in Arad county who wish to become professional maternal assistants should contact the Case Management Service for Children – Maternal Assistance within DGASPC Arad, Iustin Marsieu Street no. 22 A, ground floor, room 7, phone 0257/250325, where they will submit an evaluation request accompanied by the documents listed below.
Upon submission of the evaluation request, the capacity of the applicant to care for children will be assessed. This evaluation can last a maximum of 90 days, during which time the applicant and the members of their family will be involved in various activities.
The procedure for evaluating the applicant and their family comprises 2 stages:
-initial evaluation stage
-training stage
The certificate is issued by the Arad Child Protection Commission and is valid for 3 years.

Persons who consider themselves unfairly treated by the response received from DGASPC Arad may address the administrative litigation court pursuant to Law no. 544/2004.
