The National Evaluation for eighth-grade students represents the method of external summative assessment of the competencies acquired during lower secondary education.
The exam takes place annually in a single session. Both candidates from state education and those from private education have the right to take the NE free of charge.
The average obtained at NE VIII is a decisive criterion for admission to high school education.
Coordination at the national level of planning, organizing, and conducting NE VIII, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the Ministry of Education through the National Center for Assessment and Examination (NCAE).
The development of specific assessment procedures is carried out by the NCAE following consultation with the ministry's specialty departments.
Coordination at the county level/Bucharest municipality of organizing NE VIII, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the school inspectorate.
