The Romanian-American University automatically recognizes the status of doctoral supervisor and habilitation, obtained in accredited higher education institutions abroad, according to the recognition procedure described below.
Eligibility
Eligible to submit applications for recognition of the status of doctoral supervisor or habilitation are applicants who have obtained this status at:
- accredited higher education or research and development institutions from a member state of the European Union, the European Economic Area, and the Swiss Confederation;
- accredited higher education or research and development institutions included in the List of prestigious universities from other states, approved by order of the Minister of National Education and Research, periodically updated;
- accredited higher education or research and development institutions subject to an international mutual recognition agreement, concluded at intergovernmental or inter-university level.
Recognition of the status of doctoral supervisor or habilitation is granted only for the purpose of exercising the rights conferred by the status of doctoral supervisor or for occupying a teaching/research position within the Romanian-American University.

The status of doctoral advisor is found at position no. A8 in Annex no. 2 of Law no. 200/2004 regarding the recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications for regulated professions in Romania, with subsequent amendments and completions.*

Appeal routes
The decision may be contested within 30 days from the date of communication, through a substantiated request submitted to the University Registrar’s Office. Appeals are resolved within 5 days by the appeal resolution committee consisting of 5 members appointed by decision of the Rector. The response to the appeal is communicated directly, by email, or by mail/courier company, to the applicant or their authorized representative, based on signature and fixed date, by the Office of Academic Records. The procedure is developed and approved based on O.M. no. 5921/2016 published in the Official Gazette no. 1007 dated 15.12.2016.
