The procedure establishes the method by which, at the request of the concerned persons, ATHENAEUM University of Bucharest recognizes the doctoral diploma and the title of doctor in sciences or in a professional field obtained from:
a) accredited institutions of higher education or research-development from an EU, EEA, or EC member state;
b) accredited institutions of higher education or research-development included in the List of prestigious universities from other states, approved by Order no. 5462/2018 and periodically updated;
c) accredited institutions of higher education or research-development that are subject to an international mutual recognition agreement concluded at intergovernmental or interuniversity level.
The recognition of the doctoral diploma and the title of doctor in sciences obtained abroad under this procedure is valid and produces legal effects only at the Athenaeum University of Bucharest and is carried out for the purpose of:
a) filling vacant teaching positions for a fixed term, as an associate academic staff member;
b) participating in a competition for filling a vacant teaching or research position within Athenaeum University – with indefinite employment;
c) enrollment in postgraduate programs.

The teaching profession (or doctoral supervisor) is found at position no. A.8 in Annex no. 2 of Law no. 200 of 2004 regarding the recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications for regulated professions in Romania, with subsequent amendments and additions.*

Appeal routes
The decision of non-recognition can be appealed only once, within 15 calendar days from notification, through a motivated request submitted to the Registry of Athenaeum University of Bucharest or sent to the email address secretariat@univath.ro.
The appeals are resolved and communicated to the applicants within 30 calendar days from registration. Following the appeal, the final decision of recognition or non-recognition may be challenged in the competent courts.
