Social assistance is granted to families and single persons, Romanian citizens or foreigners, as well as homeless persons in need, who live in improvised shelters.
Families and single persons whose income falls below the monthly level of the guaranteed minimum income established by emergency ordinance. The monthly amount of the Guaranteed Minimum Income (GMI) is set in relation to the Social Reference Indicator (SRI), whose value is established by law.
Conditions for granting
The application and self-declaration, as well as other supporting documents regarding family composition and income earned, are registered at the town hall of the locality in whose territorial area the applicant has their domicile or residence.
To settle the application for granting social assistance, a social investigation will be carried out at the domicile or, if applicable, at the applicant’s residence, or at the place designated by the applicant in the case of the homeless.
Granting or, if applicable, not granting the right to social assistance is decided by the written order of the mayor, and the right to social assistance is granted starting from the month following the registration of the application. To monitor compliance with the conditions for granting the right to social assistance, social investigations are conducted at an interval of 3 months or whenever necessary.
