For the registration of a variety in the Official Catalogue of cultivated plant varieties in Romania for commercialization, it is necessary for the applicant to request the entry of the variety for testing. Testing is carried out in the experimental fields of the testing centers in the ISTIS network. The tests performed are DUS and VAU. The DUS test lasts 2 years (2 growing cycles) and is mandatory for all species. The VAU test lasts 2-3 years and is mandatory for field crop species. Registered varieties are notified to the common EU catalogues and can be cultivated and commercialized in all EU member states.
