The National Assessment for 8th grade students represents the method of external summative assessment of the competencies acquired during secondary education.
The exam is held annually in a single session. Both candidates from public education and those from private education have the right to take the NA free of charge.
The average grade obtained at NA VIII is a decisive criterion for admission to high school education.
National coordination of the planning, organization and conduct of NA VIII, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the Ministry of Education through the National Center for Assessment and Examination (NCAE).
The development of specific evaluation procedures is carried out by the NCAE, following consultation with the ministry's specialized departments.
Coordination at county level/in Bucharest of the organization of NA VIII, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the school inspectorate.
