The National Assessment for 8th grade students represents the external summative evaluation method of the competencies acquired throughout lower secondary education.

The exam takes place annually, in a single session. Both candidates from state education and those from private education have the right to take the NA free of charge.

The average obtained at NA VIII is a decisive criterion for admission to high school education.

National level coordination of the planning, organization, and administration of NA VIII, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the Ministry of Education through the National Center for Assessment and Examination (NCAE).

The development of specific evaluation procedures is carried out by the NCAE, after consulting the specialized departments of the ministry.

Coordination at the county level/Bucharest municipality for the organization of NA VIII, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the school inspectorate.
