In accordance with legal provisions, the Romanian Gendarmerie carries out missions to ensure public order on the occasion of rallies, marches, demonstrations, processions, picketing actions, promotional and commercial actions, cultural-artistic, sports, religious, commemorative events or other such activities that take place in public spaces and that involve crowds of people. At the same time, the law guarantees citizens' freedom to express their political, social or other opinions, to organize rallies, demonstrations, manifestations, processions and any other gatherings and to participate in them, activities which can only be carried out peacefully and without disturbing public order and safety. According to the legislation in force, public gatherings that take place in public spaces can be organized only after prior notification at least 3 days before the date of the event at the town hall of the administrative-territorial unit within whose area they are to be held. Also, in accordance with the provisions of Law no. 60/1991 regarding the organization and conduct of public assemblies, with subsequent amendments and additions, the organizers of public assemblies are required to register the declarations of holding public assemblies with the territorially competent gendarme units, at least 48 hours in advance.*
