In accordance with the legal provisions, the Romanian Gendarmerie carries out missions to ensure public order during rallies, marches, demonstrations, processions, picketing actions, promotional or commercial events, cultural-artistic, sports, religious, commemorative manifestations, or other such activities that take place in public spaces and which involve large gatherings of people. At the same time, the freedom of citizens to express their political, social or other opinions, to organize rallies, demonstrations, manifestations, processions and any other meetings and to participate in them is guaranteed by law, activities that can take place only peacefully and without violating public order and safety. According to the legislation in force, public gatherings that take place in public spaces can only be organized after prior declaration at least 3 days before their date to the city hall of the administrative-territorial unit where they are to take place. Also, according to the provisions of Law no. 60/1991 regarding the organization and conduct of public gatherings, with subsequent amendments and additions, the organizers of public gatherings are required to register the declarations for conducting public gatherings at the territorially competent gendarme units at least 48 hours before.*
