The Romanian citizen is obliged, within 6 months from the registration of the civil status act or fact with foreign authorities, or from the date of acquiring/re-acquiring Romanian citizenship, to request the transcription of the civil status certificates/extracts at the local community public service for personal records or at the town hall of the competent administrative-territorial unit, or at the diplomatic missions or career consular offices of Romania. The transcription of the certificates/extracts/multilingual civil status extracts is carried out abroad with the approval of the heads of diplomatic missions or career consular offices, and in the country with the approval of the mayor of the administrative-territorial unit at the place of domicile/last domicile in Romania of the holder or applicant, as the case may be, and the mandatory endorsement of the head of the county community public service for personal records/the local community public service for personal records of the sector of Bucharest municipality, and their refusal must be motivated. The fees charged for this public service are established by local council decision.
