Filing an application for the registration of a design or model with OSIM*
The registration of an application for design registration at OSIM is not mandatory and is subject to payment, the fee regime being established by Government Ordinance no. 41/1998, regarding fees in the field of industrial property protection and their usage regime, with subsequent amendments and completions. The “Design registration application” form must be filled out in 3 copies, accompanied by graphic reproductions and proof of payment of the related fees. It can be submitted online, by mail, or at the OSIM headquarters. The examination of a design registration application is done in accordance with the provisions of Law 129/1992 regarding the protection of designs, republished in 2007, as well as the Implementing Regulation. Public registers can be consulted here, and OSIM decisions are subject to appeal.

Filing a utility model application*
The registration of a utility model application with OSIM is not mandatory and is subject to a fee, the fee regime being established by Government Ordinance no. 41/1998, regarding fees in the field of industrial property protection and the regime for their use, with subsequent amendments and completions.
The standard form "Utility model application" must be completed in 3 copies accompanied by the relevant documents consisting of: summary, description, drawings (if applicable), claims.
These can be submitted by mail or at the OSIM headquarters. The examination of a utility model application is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Law 350/2007 on utility models, as well as its Implementing Regulations. OSIM decisions are subject to appeal:
